We are excited to partner with you as you guide your elementary students in their faith! Below, you will find details about the lesson we learned this week and a helpful activity to reinforce the lesson at home.
Bible Story: Jesus’ Crucifixion
In this Bible story, Jesus was chosen by the crowd to be crucified. Once chosen, he was beaten, mocked and forced to die upon a cross. Jesus’ crucifixion was the fulfillment of prophecy and an act to save the world from our sins. Read more in Matthew 27:11-66.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 2:8
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
Home Activity: Experiment
When Jesus died on the cross, He took our punishment for us even though He had never sinned. While we cannot know what it feels like to make a sacrifice like Jesus did, ask your child if he or she wants to experiment and see what it feels like to do something in place of someone. Perhaps your child could take on the extra chores of a younger sibling, or maybe he or she would volunteer to do a job that is reserved for a classmate in school. After performing the experiment, talk with your child about how it felt to stand in someone’s place. Remind him or her that Jesus willingly stood in the place of each of us!
