We are excited to partner with you as you guide your elementary students in their faith! Below, you will find details about the lesson we learned this week and a helpful activity to reinforce the lesson at home.
Bible Story: Jesus Cleansed the Temple
In this Bible story, Jesus becomes angry and clears the dishonest people from the temple. By doing so, He shows His commitment to honoring God. The temple was supposed to be a place where people could pray and worship God, and those people were making it difficult to do so. Read more in Matthew 21:12-17 and Mark 11:15-19.
Memory Verse: Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Home Activity: Clean-up Time!
Ask your child to think like Jesus did: Is there anything in your home hindering him or her from being able to worship and pray to God? Have your child come up with a list of ways you can “clean up” your home. Perhaps, the TV or other electronics are taking more of his or her time than they should. Maybe your child’s room is too messy and distracting and literally needs to be cleaned up! Encourage your child to come up with a plan to spend time with God. Resist the urge to tell your child how to do it; let him or her take ownership of the ideas.
