The Risk of Not Praying

Prayer moves things in heaven to move things on earth. When you don’t pray, you risk missing out on the fullness of all God wants to do.  That’s because you can’t have the full engagement of God unless you’re fully engaged in prayer.

If you’re struggling to pray, ask yourself where else you’re struggling in your faith. Is your belief or your obedience faltering?

How Do You Hear the Voice of God?

God doesn’t make us responsible for Him to speak to us first. God speaks first. He spoke through Creation so that he’d be obvious.

The first way we start to understand how God speaks is by studying the Bible. It’s the “universal voice of God”. He made it clear to the prophets that he doesn’t come in a booming voice, he comes in whispers.

You know it’s His voice if it’s consistent with The Bible and it draws you to something that would be like god to do. Just say yes! If we practice that, we cultivate a sensitivity to his voice.

How to Build a Prayer Life

Jesus’s death on the cross gives us full access to God – just as we are – and we can pray to Him at any time and as often as we’d like. We don’t have to wait for Sundays or special occasions.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

– Ephesians 6:18

If you want to develop a better prayer life, simply pick a place and a time, and put it on your calendar. Start with 5-10 minutes, and you might be surprised that you start to crave more. That’s because prayer isn’t born out of religion; it’s born out of relationship.

Parents: Pray Over Your Kids

We need the power of God to strengthen our families, our kids, their lives, and their future!

Challenge to Parents: As our kids go to school, pray over them each morning before they run out the door, or on the drive that day. All it needs to be is a short and simple 1-minute prayer of blessing over them.

How To Hear From God In Prayer

If you want to hear from God, you need to walk closely with Him.

God tends to interrupt and elevate things in your life that you should focus on in prayer.

  • He might refocus your attention to a specific part of your life. (marriage, parenting, career, character)
  • He might highlight somewhere that you have drifted from him. (addictions, sin, idolatry, debt)
  • He might give you a deep passion/desire/dream for something. (career, calling, agenda)
  • He might give you a picture of a future for you, family, kids, business.
  • He might give you a dream or a picture of a future that you know you need to build towards!

James: From Skeptic To Servant

Scripture: The Book of James

James (the brother of Jesus) had moved from skeptic to identifying himself as a servant.

True faith changes our identity.

How we identify ourselves determines the actions we take. Your true identity has a bias toward action.

When you identify yourself as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, there becomes a physicality to your spirituality.

Questions:

  • Where do you find your identity?
  • Where do you need to move from “belief” to “action”?

How To Confess Your Sin

If you want to be forgiven, confess your sin to God.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:8-9

Kevin Queen’s personal practice:

  1. Find a quiet place.
  2. Pray Psalm 39.
  3. Take a card and write down the sins that come to mind.
  4. Optional: burn the card!
