We all want to live a life filled with the grace and promises of God, and yet we’ve been born with a sin nature (a tendency toward sinful behavior) that can stand in the way of our blessings. What should we do to break free from our sinful patterns and live the full life that God designed? Learning where sin comes from, and why we tend to sin in some areas more than others, is the first step toward breaking free.
Our sin nature dates all the way back to Adam and the original sin. To make things even tougher, each of us may have a spiritual “Signature” sin that keeps recurring throughout our lives. Examples of these sins are insecurity and jealousy; hate and anger, lust, addiction – the list goes on (Galatians 5:19-21).
The good news is we do have hope! Examining your life, turning away from your sin, and living under the grace that comes through Jesus’ death on the cross will set you free.
Question: With what sins do you struggle regularly? Would you say that you have a “trademark” sin, an “Achilles heel?” What is it, and how does it continue to show up in your everyday life?
Today’s Prayer: Father - Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to die for my sins. I didn’t deserve that gift and yet You loved me enough to give it to me anyway. You are so kind to me. I want to live a life that’s pleasing to you. Help me to understand why I sin and to turn away from it. I long to make better choices and break free from my “Achilles heel” sin. When I sin in that way, help me to recognize it quickly, confess it to you, and make things right. Thank You for Your amazing grace and mercy.
