The Lord Will Provide

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:25-34
Everyone carries worries and concerns from time to time — and this passage is one of the most encouraging sections of Scripture that addresses them. We don’t have to look any further than the birds and the flowers to see how much care and intention God has for all his creations — and if he cares that much about things that are relatively small and won’t last long, how much more must He care for you and me? And when it comes to our real, tangible needs, verse 32 reminds us that God knows we have them — and that’s both an acknowledgment and an encouragement all at the same time!
The biggest takeaway, however, comes in verse 33; the reminder that our first and best task is simply to seek God. When we’re worried, when we’re desperate, when we’re full of concerns, He is our refuge. Pray that it becomes our reflex in worry to seek Him, to read His words, and to talk to Him. And not just because He is able to provide for our needs (which He is!) — but because He is actually enough for us, all by Himself. He is the real prize, and everything else pales in comparison!
Seek first the kingdom and its treasures
Everything else, it will be added
All that I’m needing
I know the Lord will provide
Start by acknowledging to God how you’re currently feeling — thankful for His provision in your life, worried and needing Him to come through, or anywhere in between. Then read the Scripture passage slowly. Read it as if God himself is speaking directly to you — because He is! Then listen to the song and let it remind you that He loves and provides for you much more than birds and flowers. And if you seek Him first, you’ll find the treasure is simply Him!
